The Sisters of St. Joseph Healthcare Foundation supports Forget Me Not Farms in Santa Rosa to provide 650 low-income, vulnerable, at-risk children and women a weekly delivery of free fresh produce. Forget Me Not Farm plants heirloom seeds whenever possible -blue potatoes, purple carrots, orange tomatoes, and yellow watermelon. This produce is nurtured by the children in the program. One participant said he did not like strawberries, but after tasting one from our garden, he was shocked at the sweetness and said he changed his mind and now LOVES strawberries. Engaging children in healthy eating can be challenging. Still, by growing the best-tasting produce, there is a better chance to make permanent changes in their diets and encourage them to appreciate healthy food choices.
